Christopher’s Kitchen provides free food for families and caregivers who remain by loved ones in the hospital or extended care facility.
Since 2017, our fully volunteer-based organization has been committed to providing food for families in the hospital caring for their children. The last thing families who have a child in the hospital should worry about is food. Our goal is to eliminate the need for families to leave the facility to feed themselves, as well as the financial burden of a meal.
We do this by maintaining fully stocked food pantries at hospitals in the Pittsburgh area and providing take-home meal bags. The food provided by Christopher’s Kitchen at these locations is available to anyone who needs it, regardless of economic status. If you need a meal, we have one for you - no questions asked.
HOW WE HELP
UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh
Where it all started: We currently maintain four (4) stocked pantries on various units of Children's Hospital. We've also installed 16 Hydration Stations to provide free, clean drinking water. In addition, we also provide 'Grab and Go' meal bags for families to take home when they leave the facility.
Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center
We have 2 food pantries available to families at this location.
UPMC Children’s Hospital Community Care Centers (Satellite Locations)
We provide seven (7) satellite locations with bags of free food based on need, consisting of four meals for a family of four.
Magee Women’s Hospital
In 2023, we added our first food pantry at Magee, located in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
